Hot Tub Base Repair in Cheltenham – Rotten Timber Replaced with New Treated Wood

We recently completed a major hot tub base repair in Cheltenham after the timber foundation beneath a customer’s spa had become badly rotten over time. Structural base issues are a common problem with older hot tubs and can quickly lead to instability and further damage if left untreated.

After a full inspection, we removed all of the rotten timber from the base and replaced it with brand-new treated wood to restore the strength and stability of the hot tub.

The Problem – Rotten Hot Tub Base

Hot tubs are incredibly heavy when filled with water, which means the supporting base must remain strong and structurally sound at all times. In this case, the original timber had deteriorated due to years of moisture exposure and weathering.

Some common signs of a failing timber hot tub base include:

  • Soft or weakened timber underneath the spa

  • Uneven positioning or movement

  • Visible wood rot or decay

  • Cabinet panels no longer lining up correctly

  • Water pooling around the base area

If ignored, rotten timber can eventually compromise the structural integrity of the hot tub and result in more extensive repairs.

Our Timber Base Repair Process

To properly restore the hot tub foundation, we carefully lifted and secured the spa before replacing the damaged framework with pressure-treated timber designed for outdoor use.

The repair included:

  • Safely lifting and supporting the hot tub and due to the extent of damage taking the hot tub to our warehouse to carry out the repairs indoors

  • Removing all rotten and damaged timber

  • Inspecting the surrounding frame structure

  • Installing new treated timber supports

  • Reinforcing the base for long-term durability

  • Checking the spa was level and fully supported

Once the repair was complete, the hot tub had a solid and secure base again, helping to protect the spa from future structural problems.

Why Hot Tub Timber Bases Fail

Timber base deterioration is often caused by prolonged moisture exposure combined with poor drainage or ageing materials.

Common causes include:

  • Water leaks around the spa

  • Poor drainage beneath the hot tub

  • Constant exposure to damp conditions

  • Untreated or ageing timber

  • Lack of routine maintenance inspections

Using treated timber and maintaining good drainage around the spa can help prevent future problems and extend the life of the hot tub.
